Kai (カイ Kai) is one of the four starting characters in 100% Orange Juice!, that the player can select without paying any Stars. He originates from and is the protagonist of 100% Orange Juice!.

Overview

Teased as being a generic hero by fellow characters, Kai features neutral yet strong stats that give him no particular strengths or weaknesses. With a slightly above average health stat, partially buffed attack stat, and neutral defense and evasion stat, Kai is able to play both agressively and defensively. His health is high enough that he can survive most attacks, and his attack buff enables him to deal a bit more damage during combat. Kai also has the advantage of being able to use most cards, unlike most characters, as he neither suffers much or becomes extremely powerful from any card. As to be expected however, Kai does lean more toward aggression then fellow starter, QP, thanks to his buff and Hyper. Kai should not have too much trouble with Encounter panels, but the player should still take precautions based on their current RNG performance. In the late game, Kai's Hyper gives him a great combat advantage, enabling him to navigate through the late stages of the game safely.

Kai is unusual in that he does not feature any noteworthy exploitable weakness. His stats are neutral which give him the chance to be either sturdy or fragile. Kai has no natural barrier to attacks like Fernet or Suguri, and thus will rely only on RNG and cards to survive powerful attacks. As a result, Kai can be defeated through constant combat as he only has neutral survivability without any protective cards. His Hyper also lacks impact without a card combo, and doesn't have the natural burst of strength other Hypers often offer. In short, Kai suffers somewhat from being exactly what he was designed to be: A jack of all trades with no particular strength without cards to boost his abilities.

Like most characters in the cast, Kai should generally aim for star norma and play passively, unless the opportunity presents itself, or is better than the alternative. With luck and proper card draws, Kai can easily switch between normas and with the aid of his Hyper, Kai can easily up his odds of gaining wins. Player should mainly aim for Bonus panels but should take care to make sure they have cards in their hand for the late game, especially Kai's Hyper.
