Kai (カイ Kai) is one of the four starting characters in 100% Orange Juice!, that the player can select without paying any Stars Icon.pngStars. He originates from and is the protagonist of 100% Orange Juice!.

Overview[edit source]

Teased as being a generic hero by fellow characters, Kai features neutral yet strong stats that give him no particular strengths or weaknesses. With a slightly above average health stat, partially buffed attack stat, and neutral defense and evasion stat, Kai is able to play both agressively and defensively. His health is high enough that he can survive most attacks, and his attack buff enables him to deal a bit more damage during combat. Kai also has the advantage of being able to use most cards, unlike most characters, as he neither suffers much or becomes extremely powerful from any card. As to be expected however, Kai does lean more toward aggression then fellow starter, QP, thanks to his buff and Hyper. Kai should not have too much trouble with  Encounter panels, but the player should still take precautions based on their current RNG performance. In the late game, Kai's Hyper gives him a great combat advantage, enabling him to navigate through the late stages of the game safely.

Kai is unusual in that he does not feature any noteworthy exploitable weakness. His stats are neutral which give him the chance to be either sturdy or fragile. Kai has no natural barrier to attacks like Fernet or Suguri, and thus will rely only on RNG and cards to survive powerful attacks. As a result, Kai can be defeated through constant combat as he only has neutral survivability without any protective cards. His Hyper also lacks impact without a card combo, and doesn't have the natural burst of strength other Hypers often offer. In short, Kai suffers somewhat from being exactly what he was designed to be: A jack of all trades with no particular strength without cards to boost his abilities.

Like most characters in the cast, Kai should generally aim for star norma and play passively, unless the opportunity presents itself, or is better than the alternative. With luck and proper card draws, Kai can easily switch between normas and with the aid of his Hyper, Kai can easily up his odds of gaining wins. Player should mainly aim for  Bonus panels but should take care to make sure they have cards in their hand for the late game, especially Kai's Hyper.

"This is the privilege of the main character!" - Kai

Kai's Hyper is Protagonist's Privilege. Protagonist's Privilege makes it so that when the unit playing the card initiates a battle, the opposing unit cannot attack. This effect lasts for 3 chapters.

Strategy[edit source]

Protagonist's Privilege is an unusual Hyper. While not particularly powerful, the main advantage of Protagonist's Privilege is that it enable Kai to take risks, like walking into a boss battle with 1 HP and leaving unharmed. Upon the Hyper's use, the opposing defending unit is unable to fight back, allowing Kai to get free hits without any fear of retaliation. The Hyper is also unique in that it lasts for multiple turns enabling Kai to strike again multiple times.

The Hyper is best implemented with battle cards such as  Final Battle. As long as Kai initiates combat, using Final Battle while the Hyper is active will let Kai get a free attack roll against a defending opponent before the turn acts as normal. The apparent advantage to this combo is that it increases the opponents chance of being KO'd, but using such a combo will cost the player 50 stars. Thus, using  President's Privilege is beneficial to lower the cost.  Little War can also give similar results, however, has less guarantee of KOing an opponent.

Tips[edit source]

Playing As Kai
  • Similar to nully type characters, Kai can benefit from cards that cause battles such as  Gentleman's Battle and cards that increase his ATK in battle like  Accel Hyper.
  • Cards that increase Kai's movement such as  Dash! and  Windy Enchantment can be helpful in catching weakened opponents.
Playing Against Kai
  • As Kai's only strength is his extra attack, cards that protect the user such as  Shield and  Shield Counter are effective against him.
  • Cards that cause Kai to lose cards such as  Gift Exchange and  Present Thief are helpful in making Kai lose his Hyper, rendering him relatively average.

Starting Cards[edit source]

When the player begins a new game and selects their starting main character, they will receive the cards necessary to create a deck. If a player chooses Kai as their starting character, they will begin the game with the provided 15 cards along with Kai's Unit Card and Hyper Card. In concurrence with Kai's stats, Kai's starting deck is relatively combat based, with it containing mostly stat adjustment cards to aid Kai and weaken his opponents.
